Medical Assistance

I offer assistance with medication administration, tailored to each pet's needs.

Medication Administration:

  • Oral Medications: Administering pills, capsules, and liquids according to the owner's instructions.
  • Injectable Medications: For pets requiring insulin, allergy shots, or other injectables
  • Topical Medications: Applying creams, ointments, and eye/ear drops.

Basic Monitoring and Care:

  • Blood Glucose Monitoring: For diabetic pets, needing at home blood glucose spot checks.
  • Subcutaneous Fluid Administration: For pets needing hydration support. 
  • Wound Care: Cleaning and bandaging minor, stable wounds (not involving active infection or deep tissue damage) following the owner's and/or veterinarian's instructions.
  • Physical Therapy Exercises: Performing simple exercises prescribed by a veterinarian for rehabilitation (with clear instructions and owner consent).
  • Weight Monitoring: Tracking a pet's weight and reporting changes to the owner.
  • Appetite and Elimination Monitoring: Closely observing and documenting food and water intake, urination, and defecation.

Preventative Care Support:

  • Nail Trims: For pets comfortable with the procedure.
  • Ear Cleaning: Performing routine ear cleaning for healthy ears (not for suspected infections).

Emergency Preparedness:

  • Recognizing and Reporting Signs of Illness or Distress: My trained eye is invaluable in noticing subtle changes that might indicate a problem.
  • Basic First Aid: Being prepared to administer basic first aid in an emergency situation while awaiting veterinary care (e.g., applying pressure to a minor wound).
  • Knowing When and How to Seek Veterinary Care: Having a clear protocol for contacting the owner and their veterinarian in case of an emergency.
